ON CLOISTER GARDENS, COURTYARDS AND CONVENT WALLS

The Centre of Art History and Artistic Research (CHAIA) of the University of Évora will organize the interdisciplinary International workshop “Cloister gardens, courtyards and convent walls” in Évora (27 February 2015).
Working Languages for oral communications: Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, and Italian. However, papers for publication can only be due in English. No translation will be provided.
We will privilege comparative and transdisciplinary approaches and case-studies (especially of the Mediterranean universe and Iberian colonies). Potential contributors are invited to submit a 300 word abstract on subjects related to any of the following conference tracks:
-Cloister gardens design
-Cloister gardens and courtyards’ composition relationship
-Cloister gardens’ functions
-Species cultivated in cloister gardens
-Cloister gardens’ meanings
-convent walls as farm
-convent walls as examples of self-sustainability
Papers and panels on the above themes are invited. However, papers/panels on other subjects related to the above topics will also be considered. Participants will be held to a twenty minute presentation limit.
