Landscape architecture continually transforms the environment and the way we approach it. The discipline, which began around 1800, quickly evolved throughout the twentieth century. Nowadays it takes a prominent place within society and becomes established as an important concern. The exhibition shows a variety of facets of this fascinating field. The first section deals with theory and history and provides a conceptual framework for the exhibition. The visitor is invited to discover the influence of the history of gardens and the important role played by the pioneers of Swiss landscape architecture. The visitor will also see the crucial function of national exhibitions, including the more recent Lausanne Jardins. The second section provides a survey of the most significant landscape architecture studios. The last section, “nouvelle vague”, presents the works of a new generation of landscape architects.
The exhibition has been financially supported by Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council, and is designed as a travel exhibition. In that sense, it has been shown in different places. In Portugal, the travel starts in Faro (Algarve – November/December 2013) and will be pursued in Vila Real (Trás-os-Montes - March/April 2014) and Évora (Alentejo - April/May 2014).
Conferences/workshops/book presentations about Landscape will accompany the travel exhibition and will be announced on the pages of the different institutions involved in the travel organization in Portugal.
Organization from the travel in Faro, Vila Real and Évora:
