Archaeozoology Shourt Course

Shourt course in archaeozoology taking place in University of Évora
The panel of professors:
Dr. Simon Davis (IGESPAR)
Dr. Marta Moreno-García (CSIC)
Dr. Carlos Pimenta (IGESPAR)
With the collaboration of professors with a large experience in the area, this short course was designed for does who want to earn bases for understanding the faunal depositional process in archaeological context and how to study and identify species present in those kinds of collections.
It’s also an important part of this short course the debate of some of the most pertinent matters in the area, like the discussion of the term Archaeozoology vs Zooarchaeology.
A definition of the term Zooarchaeology...
“Zooarchaeology refers to the study of animal remains excavated from archaeological sites. The goal of Zooarchaeology is to understand the relationship between humans and their environment, especially between humans and other animal populations. Zooarchaeology is characterized by its broad, interdisciplinary character, which makes it difficult to write a review that adequately covers all aspects of the field” in Reitz E., Wing E. 2008, Zooarchaeology, Cambridge University Press.
Location: Universidade de Évora, Portugal
